Passion for God's Word

I have been part of the same women's Bible Study for over 6 years.  What I love most about this particular study is the committment and passion for the Word that the women who attend have.  We will spend nearly an hour and a half inductively studying the Word with very few side conversations or distractions.  We meet because we value the Word and long to KNOW and UNDERSTAND it.  The women in this study are a blessing to me in so many ways but mostly because they share my passion for God's Word.

"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation..."  1 Peter 2:2

The unrestrained hunger of a healthy baby provides an example of the kind of eager desire for spiritual food that ought to mark the believer.  Milk is the nourishment a newborn baby needs.  Similarly, the Word of God (the spiritual milk) is the nourishment one needs to mature in relationship with Jesus

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is opportunity after opportunity to study God's Word.

So many of  the overwhelming questions and unknowns they will have in life are answered and understood inside the Word.

Furthermore, when they are seeking direction and wisdom the Word of God will be a "lamp to their feet and a light to their path." Psalm 119:105

And finally, the Word of God will thoroughly equip them in life by teaching and training them in righteousness.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16

As parents, we cannot answer all our children's questions and unknowns

We cannot tell them which path to take.

We cannot equip them with all they need for life.

Only the Word of God accomplishes these.

Our job is to know the Word ourselves, reflect its teachings, and make opportunities for our children to read, discuss, and apply it to their lives.

Join me as I pray the following:

Lord, Your Word is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training my children.  I pray that they would crave the spiritual nourishment of Your Word and grow in their relationship with Jesus as they passionately study it.  Show me ways I can give them opportunity to study and know God's Word so that it can be a lamp to their feet.  May they be lovers of Your Word above all else and be deeply committed to its teachings.

Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 2:2
