As many of you know a few weeks ago Keith and I took Cole on a special trip.  The purpose of the trip was to pursue him with little distraction.

As a middle child myself, I understand the struggle for attention that Cole might experience.  So, our purpose was to whisk him away for a few days with just mommy and daddy in order to spend intimate time enjoying and getting to know JUST him

To pursue means to strive to gain or accomplish; to court; to be engaged in.

Thus, the pursuit of someone (or something) is not accidental, it is purposeful and planned out.

At the end of our trip, our purposes and plans in pursuit of Cole had been accomplished.  Without question, we grew in our knowledge and understanding of who he is.  And we absolutely enjoyed him!

Similarly, God pursues us through His Son Jesus

And a pretty good sign that someone is in relationship with Jesus is when THEY actively, and even passionately, pursue God.

1 Timothy 6:11 teaches,

"But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."

This verse directly follows a section warning people against loving and pursuing money.  Money is described as the root of all kinds of evil.  And those who are eager for money wander from the faith and find themselves wrapped up in many troubles.  [1 Timothy 6:10]

So, the man of God is directed to run from all this and rather to run with HOT PURSUIT toward God and those virtues which embody His character...  His righteousness, His godliness, His faith, His love, His endurance, and His gentleness.

The pursuit of God will bind the believer to a solid faith.

The pursuit of God will deliver the believer from trouble and grant him peace and contentment.

Our desire as parents who love Jesus is that our children would love Jesus and run in HOT PURSUIT of Him.

Join me today and let's pray for our children:

God,  You pursue ALL people through Your Son Jesus.  He alone is Your greatest demonstration of how You love and desire to be in relationship with us.  I pray that my children would be wooed by this loving pursuit.  And I pray they would find themselves eager to reciprocate and actively pursue Jesus.  May their love for You, encourage a purposeful and planned effort toward pursuing those virtues of righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.  And may avoid the pursuit of those things that will make them wander from the faith and wrap them up in many troubles.
